House Rules

This is a page for sharing house rules. If we end up having a substantial number of house rules, we can turn it into a category with individual pages. For now, we'll organize the page into subject headings. Each house rule will be introduced with a paragraph explaining the rationale, followed by a link to the details.

Character Advancement

After their first Revelation, the rules as written allow characters to add fifth degree spells freely. If the first Revelation comes after the wizards have already achieved several Breakthroughs, the characters will have enough foundation of fourth degree spells that they can add several fifth degree spells in rapid succession. This creates an uneven sense of advancement: slow and steady before the Revelation and potentially very fast afterward. There's a solid proposal for slowing the rate at which characters acquire fifth and sixth degree spells, to make the pace of character advancement less "bursty."
