The most important tool for diagnosing CES is a prompt MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan. An MRI will reveal whether a herniated disc may have been a result, or whether the patient is suffering from spinal stenosis. Although there are other reasons the lumbar herniation is the most common cause for the majority of cases. MRI is the fastest and easiest way to confirm that the herniation was caused.
